THE STORM ON THE SEA / by Joe Castorino

When the fearful storms of my life

Suddenly strike, in the dark night

Of unknowing, and the dark night

Of the cross, and the wild wind

Furiously rages, and the giant jaws

Of the hungry waves threaten

To swallow me alive --

Lord, save me!

At these times, I inexplicably

Leave you sleeping quietly

In the stern of the boat,

And I foolishly take command,

As if I were the captain of the vessel,

And I frantically row, and row, and row,

All by myself, in utter futility.

Please remind me to turn to you,

Dear Lord, and to awaken you

In the sudden storms of my life,

To wholeheartedly pray to you,

Like your Apostles did in that boat,

In that unforgettable storm on the sea.

So when my little life is threatened

By the terrifying tempests of fear,

And I am convinced that there is

Simply no time for prayer,

I will pray anyway!

I will never cease praying!

I will persevere in prayer!

I will patiently wait for Divine Wisdom

To fill my heart and soul,

With the magnificent and dazzling light

Of divine mercy in the dark night!

Amen.
