1. If I go to Holy Mass today, then afterwards I’ll try to spend a little time in Eucharistic Adoration, asking Our Lord a few key questions about anything that especially concerns me or troubles me that day. Then, I listen as He silently whispers His answers into the deep recesses of my heart and soul. Later in the day, during the Hour of Mercy, I try to do the same thing if I can, slowing down my life just a bit and finding a quiet place where I can place myself in Our Lord’s holy presence.
2. I’ve learned not to make decisions too quickly. The first time I come before Our Lord, I try to make a tentative decision. Then, the second time I come before Him, I either confirm the original decision or reverse it. Finally, the third time I come before Jesus, I make a final decision in His presence -- after that it needs to take a definitive sign from the Lord for me to change my mind. This way of discerning God’s will comes from Jesus own example in the Garden of Gethsemane on Holy Thursday. He too went off to pray three times, in order to discern the Father’s will (Matthew 26: 36-46).
1. For my daily spiritual reading, I begin by reading from “Divine Mercy in My Soul: Diary of St. Maria Faustina Kowalska.” For a more detailed description of how I do this, please go to the main page of this website, then click on the link entitled “The Saints.” Then, scroll down to my discussion of St. Faustina.
2. Next, I read from St. Francis de Sales’ “Introduction to the Devout Life.” Again, for a more detailed description of how I do this, please go to the main page of this website, then click on the link entitled “The Saints.” Then, scroll down to my discussion of St. Francis de Sales.
3. Then, if I am close to a major Marian feast day, I read from the “Preparation for Total Consecration to Jesus Christ through Mary: According to St. Louis de Montfort,” so that I can make my five-day reconsecration. Once again, for a more detailed description of how I do this, please go to the main page of this website, then click on the link entitled “Total Consecration.” Then, scroll down to my discussion of this devotion.
4. Lastly, if for some reason I don’t read both St. Faustina, St. Francis de Sales, and/or St. Louis de Montfort, then I try to read a passage from the writings of another saint of my choice, such as San Josemaría.
